My Poetry
Jakeem Carrington
I always run fast to my poetry
Where I'm heavenly protected
Where I could uplift or criticise myself
Without feeling ashamed, judgment or neglected
My poetry, my place of safety and vulnerability
The one place where I can simply just be me
Without holding back smiles and painful tears
Just me, my pen and my paper, just chilling here
I write these poems to show my true authenticity
To show my love, my values, my qualities
Plastered all over this gracefully broken page
My poetry that sometimes bends but never breaks
I could say “I love you” one thousand times
But only God knows if you really care
But the words I write never leave my side
No matter how I feel, these words will never die
