Why Do You Write? ✒︎
To draw attention to the many varieties of writing people engage in and to help all writers recognize their craft, the National Council of Teachers of English established October 20 as the National Day on Writing. In October 2024, the Composition Committee of the English and World Languages Department invited students, faculty, and staff across MEC to respond to the NCTE’s well-known hashtag and question: #WhyIWrite. Here are some of the responses we received. We look forward to hearing from even more voices next fall!
“I write to express my thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively. Writing allows me to communicate complex concepts in a way that is understandable and engaging. As a preschool teacher of children with special needs, writing is an essential tool for creating individualized lesson plans and activities that cater to the unique needs of each student. It also serves as a medium to document their progress and achievements, which is crucial for their development and for communicating with their parents and other educators.”
“I write to improve my writing skills and also to get the training of writing. Nowadays, writing is becoming more and more challenging due to the technology innovations (applications, AI tools, etc). I personally consider being able to write a sacred and powerful skill that should be preserved.”
