<image:caption>My name is Williana Alcis. I was born in Haiti and raised in America. I am attending the Medgar Evers Nursing Program. My favorite hobby is reading. I love to read. After taking different kinds of English classes, I realized how much I love to write because, when writing, all it takes is a couple of words combined together to create a masterpiece. Anyway, since I was little, I always wanted to be a nurse, to care for and advocate for people's needs. But I have always been fascinated by words and writing books — how they can evoke any emotion. Now, as someone who has something to share, I want to thank all of my English professors, especially Prof. Liu Riley. Without her, I would never have seen a path to becoming an author or a writer. Thank you, Medgar Evers, for giving me a path to both medicine and literature.</image:caption>

<image:title>Nishonda Millington's "The Sounds of Diaspora" - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>My name is Nishonda Millington and I am a student at MEC. My painting “Sounds of the Diaspora” began as a simple sketch in my sketchbook since last year, but I finally finished it earlier this year. The inspiration behind this painting is sound and the concept of Synesthesia. This is the concept of seeing sound as colours. I interpret different genres of Black Diasporic music as different colours and shapes and that is the basis of the painting(s). From the bright pinks of 70s pop made by Donna Summer, to the deep green grunges of British garage punk music, every interpretation is welcome in assigning each colour to what the viewer imagines the sound to "look" like.</image:caption>
